Steam and OnLive should just team up on this project. OnLive has a good start on the hardware, and Valve has a proven distibution system.
My rig:
Commodore 64 with Modem cartridge. Tape drive. Zork. OKI thermal printer. 13 inch RCA color TV with tuning knob busted off. Atari 2600 joystick, and a list of all the best BBS numbers.

Really... Stop getting salty just because there is a new system coming out.. Microsoft did the same thing because they was all about computers and every one was mad about that when rumors started.. so everyone that is hating that valve is going to merge into gaming console should know facts about other systems before commenting because its what Microsoft did so chill and wait to see what comes out of it..

If they do it, I have a few questions about it. First, will there be Valve's own controllers or a strange Keyboard and Mouse setup? Second, will they have special skins for the consoles, like ones based on the Companion Cube? And third, will all the games on Steam be supported in this?

If they manage to cross-platform the games Steam players have already purchased on their PCs as well as saved games, DLC, content, etc. then I'm already sold!

Yeah, and Sony started out selling rice cookers. So great things from strange places and all that.

I don't want to pay for another console (it took me long enough to actually get a [censored] 360) but at the same time, I think they could do a really good job. Although I prefer PC gaming--I don't bother anyone in my house with the audio, and PC gaming feels more intimate somehow. It's also much easier than having to set up my game consoles. BUT STILL this would be interesting, just don't give up on the PC VALVe. >8|

But think of how steam has revolutionized pc gaming. They were the first ever online game store and were predicted to fail. Look how that went. They may actually come out with a console that people would enjoy with upgradable hardware. None of the graphics problems of Nintendo, none of the Xbox live payment structure and crappy online store, none of playstation's non support and lack of game titles. Valve might finally do a console right, and I am willing to give them the chance to prove themselves.
