During boxing day sepcials the price of a color ereader and e-ink ereader were very close to one another. I understand why consumers are attracted to colour eReader but I picked an e-ink eReader because the purpose I had was reading books and e-ink is more readable in all conditions, lighter and less offensive to the eye than back lit colour screen. ... and I love it... really love it

I have a Kindle and I love it. I didn't really feel the need for a table until I got tired of reading books from the library (via Overdrive Media Console) on my windows phone. So I bought a playbook which i love but it's not the greatest to read on. Nothing beats e-ink. Your eyes get sore after awhile reading on the tablet. I which Kindle in Canada would get the library app like in the states.

From my point of view it's just another fragmentation point. People who want multipurpose devices will get color LCD displays. Those who need to do outdoor reading and who don't have a great concern for the other functions offered by limited-function tablets (like the Kindle Fire and Nook Color) will opt for e-ink. Low priced tablet readers will probably never see hybrid displays because it will drive the price beyond the "low" price point.
I think there will always be enough people who only want portable book readers for e-ink devices to sell and be profitable. Like the "laptops will kill desktops market" theory has yet to become a reality, I think the say holds true here.

Unfortunately there are more into LCD tablets or their cheaper alternatives than e-ink devices. I have a Nook, and it has allowed me to read a lot of information reformatted from Web sites that I would not have read otherwise. It is very useful and eco-friendly as readers don't have to use dead-wood paper to read information. Moreover, That I can read e-books on the device help me to go through more books than ever before when I had to buy paperbacks or hardcover books. Now I can carry just one device on my backpack and have access to books and articles while commuting or in transit.
