Got to System Preferences either by way of the Apple Menu in the upper left corner or by clicking the icon with the gear on it on the Dock.

In System Preferences there should be a Desktop & Screensaver item that will then allow you to change the desktop using either some "premade" ones or any picture that you have. You can even set it to change the desktop picture automatically every once and a while if you want.

An APP, not a system option, is needed. Your answer may be the post by the moderator (Frank) of IrfanView forum.

The point is that if you want to change the desktop image (which is what the original poster seems to be asking how to do), then you don't need a third party app for that. The Mac OS has had the ability to change the desktop picture to a bunch of other "pre-supplied" pictures or ANY picture you want (that you took yourself or that you find on the Internet) for a long time...and you can even have it rotate among various pictures at some timed interval.

Those apps listed in the post that you linked to are image editor/viewer programs, which won't change what is used for the desktop picture in and of themselves. They could be used to edit a picture that you then set as the desktop by using the System Preferences.

Hi! Thanks to everyone for help and sorry to confuse you. I was looking for an app that would contain like a 'library' of high-res pictures to use them for the desktop.

You can do a google images search for wallpaper and set it to only show high res images, for instance.

Oh, thank you for advice! :)
I also found an app Pimp Your Screen, but only for iPhone.

Transform your Desktop opens your Desktop to all new possibilities. not like the System desktop changer, you can mix and match any I-Photo album, Aperture album, folder or single image to display on your Desktop. Changes your Desktop picture at a specific interval on up to eight monitors. It installs a system broad hot key so you can change your Desktop pics from any application. Change Desktop can choose a picture at random, or choose each picture in series. If pictures are selected randomly, Change Desktop can be configured to use all pictures before repeat any picture. Coalesces pictures from multiple folders, so you don't have to move all of your pictures to one folder.
