Mark, have you given thought to what your write? You said "making different versions of apps for different OSâs and different flavors of OSâs is a huge resources sink." Let look at this, there are two major OS maybe three. Windows, Apple OSX and Linux. On browser there are Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Opera and some other minor browser. It's 5 browser against 2 OS. Windows 7, have over 90% of the OS, Apple have a 6% and Linux around 2%. So, as a developer, if you build for Windows and Apple, you pretty much have the whole market. Now on browser, you have IE with a little over 50%, Chrome around 19%, Firefox around 21%, Safari another good chunk (don't know the percent) plus Opera. Definedly more work try to work for all these browser.
I agreed with you that HTML 5 is the right product. But as you point out, it's taking for ever to make a decision and have it implemented and even more difficult to enforce it.

Just a side note, I installed Opera light on and old cell phone running windows 6.5. It was pre installed with Internet explorer which loaded like dial up & often failed. Opera however loaded like lighting. So good job Opera.
