Since Sony music CDs install rootkits/malware onto your computer in order to use them, no doubt any software on a Sony device intended to interface a Sony DSLR to your computer will do the same. No thank you. I'll stick to honorable brands like Nikon and Canon.

@Thinker999...I have used Sony cameras since the company took over from Konica-Minolta and never once have I had any "rootkits/malware" installed on my computer with Sony software. The Sony brand is just a honourable as Nikon or Canon which are both over priced options. Sony Co. is respected world wide. Sounds like you sell Nikon and Canon!! Nikon and Canon users always look down at other brands as inferior without any personal knowledge to support their claims. What you are claiming you can't back up as it's just a "no doubt". "If it isn't Nikon or Canon it can't be good phylosophy"
Remember it is not the name on the camera that makes a great image, it is the photographer, many forget this.

Nikon and Canon's advantage does not rest in 'privacy protection software, their edge in the full line of lenses and accessories that they provide. In terms of development skills, the Sony engineers are responsible for many of the advancement in modern camera development, making the Nikon sensors and many companies P&S camera sensors. And you don't need to use any companies software to process their images- jpg images are jpg images and raw files can be handled my a number of third party software vendors.
So Thinker999, you can be safe using a Sony camera, just consider the range of accessories- and if you're not shooting unique assignments you could very happy with your purchase.

sorry i dont used windows then, neither today, so i cant say i understand you, all i can say is all mac, apple, linux, etc those who dont used windows never had that problem... so perhaps you should blame microsoft instead of sony, or yourself since if you left your window wide open and you get robbed, well you had a little to blame yourself.

sony is doing a terrific job to new comers to dsrl.
i cant blame canon and nikon users for not switching, they had their investment in their lenses, but for those who start is a no brainer to start with alpha, they had the best entry cameras by a long shot.
in fact, my uncle just sell last month all his nikon cameras and lenses to jump to alpha after last christmas my entry alpha put in shame his top nikon in speed, af, video, picture effects, panorama, hdr, etc
