Why would anyone pay Walmart or Hollywood money to do something they could do at home for free?

Because not everyone has a web server they can put their movies on allowing them to access them from any of their computers as long as there's an internet connection. Unless they do, they're not paying Hollywood for something they can do for free.

Its easy, all you need is a PC, free software like dvd decrypt, handbrake, and meta x (for bluray other payed software).A large internal drive, a large external drive, a router hook-up to an ISP & Pogoplug device. It would not be free, but most people have most of these items already.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of running your own server... and running your own PC all day every day can cause hardware failure too.

There were a ton of press releases when this was first announced... but how successful is this service? How many customers are actually going into Walmart to convert their dvds into ultra violet?
