Rly, you have a bar bar chart saying "display image quality" and you have everyone at 4 and the ipad3 at 5? Wtf is that?

And if apple introduces the rumoured 7.85 inch tablet priced at around 299, then it could pile on the agony.

But since google is also rumored to be bringing its own nexus branded tablet, i still think the battle isnt over yet.

Given the problem with Android that it spies on everything that you do and chows through your bandwidth bundle to report it back to Google makes it a non-starter - period. I would not buy an android device even if the opposition was not as good as it is.

I've always valued your objective reviews. But this reeks of bias. The display is good (after all, it's RETINA). But not so good as to junk the competition. Android tablets do have their flaws. As do every other gadget out there. Extolling the virtues of the iPad 3 while keeping mum on it's flaws....? You could do better than that. Grossly unfair comparison.

OK, if the iPud beats the Android by 6 points it BLASTS the Android, but when the Android beats the iPud, it EDGES the iPud? Puh-leeze.

Where are the bars on the difference in cost?

"Game over?"

Hardly...but the iPad is certainly the big dog right now. Me? I'm waiting to see if the Windows 8 tablets are as good as my experience with Windows Phone 7 promises. WP7 is spectacular...but Windows 8 has a much higher bar to jump.

Apple has made the tablet market huge. The other players aren't going to roll over and play dead w/ billions of bucks at stake.

This is good for everyone. The devices will get better and the prices will drop.

Apple invented and perfected these devices. Its no mystery why they are as successful as they are. Everyone else is in a constant battle of catch-up. I understand Job's frustration when everyone quite literally copied everything Apple did/does. Its like a bad cover or a song. Just because they can do it, doesn''t mean they should.

Dude, you really don't know much or are just a serious fanboy that doesn't do research. Apple has the same keyloggers on their ipads and iphones that android does. The difference is, if you root an Android you can take it off most of them with no prob, if you take it off the apples you will get major lockup issues.

What's funny is, the one test that really matters the Androids win at. Most people use their Tablets to browse the web more than anything.
I also know most don't want to be tied to AT&T and their crappy service.

People need to realize something. Units shipped is not the same as units sold. So people saying Android shipped this many products compared to Apple selling this many products isn't really a comparison. There are a lot of Android products on shelves collecting dust that were shipped but no one is buying.

Another thing you can't really say a product is better than another when you compare an entire line of products vs one product. Nokia had the top mobile OS before Android but there wasn't an individual Nokia phone that outsold the iPhone. The reason Nokia was bigger is because there were more Nokia phones to choose from and more selection when it came to cost and availability. It doesn't mean people preferred Nokia phones to the iPhone. Because if that was the case the top selling Nokia phone would've outsold the iPhone. And the same holds true when it comes to Android. Android might be the top selling mobile OS but people don't choose Android over iPhone or the iPad because again there isn't an individual Android phone or Tablet to even come close to the same sales as the iPhone 4S and iPad.

Why am I bringing this up? Because Android as a compete OS does well but when you break it down product by product, Android isn't really a threat to the iPhone 4s or iPad. There never was true competition. If there was people wouldn't feel the need to compare units shipped to units sold or compare an entire mobile OS to an individual product.

If you ask me, this is a well thought out and reasoned review. It seems comparatively objective by showing both strengths and weaknesses without exaggerating either one.

"iTunes not only appeared to resize images as part of its usual "we know best" optimization for the tablet, but also seemed to tweak the color, brightness, and saturation of my originals."

I hope you're able to disable this, it would bug the hell out of me.

You say the competition needs to catch up with the ipad, but the only test that suggests any significant difference between the iPad and the current Android selection is the GLBenchmark.

Speaking of the GLBenchmark, those numbers look off. Isn't the iPad supposed to be 4x more powerful that the 2nd gen? Also, those prime numbers are way too low.

Did you even read the article itself? He explained very clearly why the new iPad earned a 5 for display quality.

I think you should check again, cause Apple does the same. Worse in some cases.

It's also notable that despite the apparent better results on the GLBenchmark, the Prime games looked and performed better.

I'd just like to inform you that I and many other DID choose Android over iOS.

And after playing around with the new 4s, I'm so glad I did.
