Hello,

ı'm on the market for a new laptop W.7 Home or Pro 32 bit

as ı don't want to be stuck wıth having to get Windows 8

and need to ask 2 thıngs:

1. Which Brand ıs most reliable,Hp ı don't want

(as even theır non existent customer service sucks, big time)

2.is W.7 Home much inferior in features, compared to Pro?

I'll only be doing basıcs such as word processing and stuff,

which i know ıs good enough for W.7 Home.

Anyone who has W.7 Pro and can tell me what they think?

Much appreciated in advance.

Hi, Mysoul.

1. I've had good luck with Lenovo.

2. I prefer Pro, but I earn a living with my PC. When I buy PCs for members of my family, I go with Home. See http://windows.micro...roducts/compare for a comparison, and decide for yourself whether you need the extra features.

One more thing: Unless you're looking for a netbook (in which case, you get Windows 8 Starter), I'm not sure if anyone even sells 32-bit versions anymore. Pretty much everything besides the cheapest hardware is 64-bit these days.

Any particular reason you need 32-bit?

What's with those odd characters in your post?

Anyway, Lenovo seems to be pretty good. HP and Dell aren't too great in terms of reliability, particularly Dell (at least that's what I've seen from past experiences anyway).

Hı Lincoln,

Thank you for your reply.

I wasn't aware that W.7.Home Premium ıs 64-bit only,

My brainwaves are stıll ın W.XP ı suppose.

I'm aware of the link you provided, simply needed other peoples

opinions on the matter.

So if i get a W.7 Home Premium,it will be 64-bit then,

is that correct?

Thank you.

P.S What do you think of TOSHİBA,reliability and customer service wise?

The odd characters in my post, are a bug of some sort.

Yes ı'm aware of the problems re:HP and Dell,

what are your thoughts on TOSHİBA and Asus?

Thank you.

Not quite. W7 Home Premium is available in a 32-bit version. It's just that the manufacturers aren't making many--or any--x64 PCs except for netbooks. You could be a netbook, then upgrade from Starter to Home Premium (you might even be able to do that when you buy it), but that would be paying extra for an under-powered PC. I wouldn't recommend it.

Any particular reason you want to stick to 32-bit?

I have no personal experience with Toshiba or ASUS and therefore won't make any comments on them.

No i don't want an underpowered pc at all.

The opposite in fact,

Ok just to be clear,i want a good quality laptop(notebook)

with W.7 Home Premium.

İ have always had 32-bit on my W.XP and been quite happy with it.

So you think a 64-bit would be a better option and if i find one

with 32-bit,then it would be still ok,OR not?

Uhh... I think you mean they aren't shipping many PCs with x86/32-bit OSes. They're all x64/64-bit now. lol Unless you have a legacy program, get a 64-bit OS. 32-bit OSes limit you to ~3.25GB RAM, and therefore aren't as futureproof (if you ever want to upgrade the ram, you'll need to change to a 64-bit OS). Most people won't have a problem with a 64-bit OS.

My mom's asus seems fine, though it creaks a little when you open/close it (it's 2 years old). I don't have any Toshiba laptops, but know a guy with one, and it has some cooling problems. I'd look into Lenovo machines, or maybe asus.

At this point it's probably the only option.

The only thing you lose is the ability to run 16-bit (pre-Windows 95) software. But even there you've got work-arounds. For instance, if you spring for Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate, you can download and install a virtual version of 32-bit Windows XP.

The question Which brand is the best isn't really a good question. The main reason is most companies specialize in certain classifications of laptops. Lenova is know for their business computers and Dell's Alienware is know for their gaming laptops. Acer makes some low cost laptops. When I shop for a laptop I don't concentrate on a brand but on a specific model that meets my needs.

Yes i see,

i've actually found a Lenovo the Z570 59-319822 Notebook,

that has W.7 Home Premium 64-bit,

and i think i may decide to get that.

İ'll see what i find.

Thanks a lot for your help,

much appreciated.

Generally speaking,so do i,

however customer service and reliability are important,

and knowing which companies excell at substandart customer service

and parts reliability does certainly matter!

therefore asking about that is NOT a negative.

But thank you for your input.

Well if you get a quality machine you never find out how good or bad the support is. Actually I've owned 5 laptops since 2001 Acer, Sager and HP laptops and I havent had to use support much at all. I had 2 Sager and one the graphics card went bad and they replaced the Mobo and i was happy the way that was handled. I also had the HP making a loud fan noise and HP support was able to fix it over the phone. I've had 2 Acer's and never had to use their support. One is over 5 years old and still working fine.

Yes i agree, that if you get a quality machine, you may well NOT need much support.

Neither have i needed much support, with my HP business laptop, which is still going strong,

after more than 5 years.

İ do believe however, that existing good support is a must,

as you never know, what may happen,

and therefore i always check a manufacturer's customer support pages,

before i commit to a pc brand.

İ prefer to play it safe.
