This is scary. A CEO and a CIO don't know the difference between downloading and installing.

First, you can't install random apps like that without first enabling "Allow installation of non-Market apps" from Settings->Security.

Now you are ready to download the malware.

Once download is complete, go to the notification bar to tap on "Malware.apk - download complete".

You are then presented with a screen listing what the app can do e.g. read contacts, send sms, etc.

Finally, the malware will install only if you click Install. You can always back out by clicking cancel.

Oops, got confused. Apparently "Meridith Levinson, CIO" doesn't mean she's a CIO. She 's just a 14 year veteran writer for CIO.com

Is this a default setting when a new customer begins using the phone?

Default is unchecked i.e. you can't install apps from the browser, email app, etc.

I really like the fact that Android tells me what each app does. I wish I have the same on my mac and windows machines.
