Try Avast or AVG. Both are very good.

Microsoft Security Essentials and you get updates free. I love it and so does the fellow the writes the IT column in the Tampa Bay Times.

I have used all three. They all give free updates. Currently, I am using Avast, While AVG seems to do a good job, it will place a toolbar in your browser and change your home page if you don't pay attention during the install. These can be negated easily, but I object to installs where you have to make 2 or 3 checks to prevent something you don't want.

This is off topic here, but I'd agree with those recommending AVG. Also - don't forget Spybot: Search & Destroy and CCleaner. Those all work well together to keep your system safe and clear of clutter.

I use AVG & it DID NOT install a toolbar & DID NOT change my hope page (2 check-boxes UNchecked).

If you don't want the hassle of UNchecking some check-boxes when installing FREE software, open your wallet & purchase the Pay-For-Play version. There, your problem is solved!
