Ah there we go.. apologists to the rescue.. Gotta help Apple sell those iPads so you'll do whatever you can to defend them.

It's truly sad what PC Magazine has become.

Or one can argue that PCW is favourable to android....with its tests showing the new ipad as the hottest.

Put your fanboyism aside, and take the results for what they are.

It's milliamp hour, not milliamp per hour. It is a measure of charge, not power, so you wouldn't necessarily expect a 11666mAh battery to generate more heat than a 7000mAh one.
Secondly, you state that "the new iPad was not dramatically warmer than either the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime or the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE". It seems to me from your figures that the new iPad runs pretty consistently hotter than most of the competition, although I agree the issue is overblown. It's a symptom of the bizarre culture around Apple where people seem to be surprised when their products aren't perfect. They've had to double the screen resolution because their OS has a major limitation: lack of resolution independence. The result is an amazing display that requires a lot more graphical processing power. This has resulted in the reported heat regression. Apple are not magic, they have to obey the laws of physics.

Wow, they're biased because they do a test and report the results? CNET must also be biased, just because they too did not see temperatures as high as CR:

They're designed like that so they burn out just before the release of the next ipad model so everyone will buy that one. I'll give it six months.

I've been playing with the iPad 3 in the store and it doesn't seem a whole lot different than my iPad 1. Obviously the screen is clearer and it's a bit snappier but i tried to just get a feel for going from app to app like we all do and after a while it just seemed like my iPad 1 as far as usability. I think Apple needs an iOS overhaul. Something to distinguish the higher end products from the low end. If the iPad 3 could do cool gadgets or whatever that the others can't i would upgrade but as it is i don't think i will. Maybe some killer app will make it shine. On a positive note my original iPad never gets hot...and that's cool.

If you had roughly 60,000 employees and a payroll that would crush an elephant would you want to sell your products? My guess is the only thing you employ is your right hand and probably with no benefits either. To imply future product failure to sell more product in this case is downright stupid. How many people still have the iPad1 and it's works just fine? Millions? So according to your particular genius they produce a third generation of iPad that will "burn out before the release of the next iPad" just like they did with the iPad1 and iPad2 right? Because all of those iPads are burnt out right?
Third grade logic renders your argument false...period.
You sir are a FAIL.
Now go sit in the corner until you get smarter.

Thank you kjohn034 for putting these guys in their place (in the corner apparently!)

Funny; on any given day, we're accused of being biased for or against Google, Microsoft, Apple, and any number of other companies. If people can't figure out what your biases are, I think that's a sign that you're doing something right (that is, you have no bias).

Also: we're PCWorld.

So, Nick, what, in your opinion, comprises the mythical "PC" and what is fair game for coverage in PCWorld?

The article merely lists the heat differentials between the latest tablets. Who are you, Mel Gibson? A conspiracy around every corner, right? LOL

How can there be _any_ bias in this particular article when all you have done is to present the facts?

I can understand how the cretins get upset when the facts don't fit THEIR OWN bias.

I believe you misunderstood; the previous poster called them "PC Magazine". Nick was simply correcting him, not making a point re. PCs.

If I dispute one single point in a post, that should not be taken as an indication that I agree/disagree with any other point made by that poster or anyone else in the thread. Or anywhere else. Ever.

Actually I did understand but was hoping to get a real PC World editorial staff member to weigh in on just what a PC is. PC has become a nebulous term for many but a bone of contention for strict constructionists. I wasn't complaining or looking for a fight, I was looking for some insight.

Furthermore, Nick was addressing the multiple charges of bias heaped on PCWorld so my question, at least to me, seemed a logical progression from his comment.

Sorry if I confused you and others, I'm already pretty confused myself.

A fair question, given the "why does PCWorld cover this?" questions we see from time to time.
Speaking in broad terms, I'd say we cover anything related to personal computing, be it a traditional PC, a tablet, or smartphone, along with the apps and devices you'll use with it.

Voice of reason. Thank you.

Let me understand: anything that is inconvenient to you is imposible to be true?
Have you heard such words as "science", "facts"??
