Every discussion of BYOD invariably focuses on the needs of IT and when it comes to security there is no compromise. There is no doubt that IT must maintain secure perimeter. However, when these security processes are unfit for mobile device to the point of rendering it almost useless one has to wonder if employees who paid for their devices with their own money are getting a disservice by plugging them in to corporate infrastructure. Anyone who ever had to type in long passwords with special characters just to make a quick call will understand what I mean.
IBM IT has to be commended for being on the leading edge of consumerization of IT. I hope that technologies that provide separation of secure and less secure content on mobile devices are developed. In the absence of such technologies there must be a compromise were slightly less secure practices, like swipe unlock on Android may be allowed.

It’s great to see a large enterprise company like IBM setting an example for how corporations can adopt a BYOD strategy. If companies have not yet created mobile device management policies or mobile application management polices, they will need to do so soon. With all the mobile device advancements, I am interested to see how other corporations are going to evolve their policies and protect their data. The emerging need to remote wipe only selected containers on the device, will be another thing to watch for.

So the strategy requires employees to buy devices that have ease of use and often functionality crippled by corporate "standard" software. No thanks... In that case the company can pay for the devices as well as the monthly service.
I also got a chuckle from the need to wipe your device if you leave the company. What about the software you bought to personalize the phone you bought and brought to the company? Won't a backup/restore work? No? then again... why bring my device to the company instead of the company issuing the device to me?
