Google is working with Firefox to speed up its performance. Look for it to be competitive soon.

I use windows, mainly use win7, occasionally use XP.I can see the difference when I use Avant browser. this browser perform better and stable in win7 compared with xp. Din't find any distinct difference when using chrome and firefox.

Really don't get that about clean install and stripping add-ons - if the article is about which browser is best for me, that has to be in my daily use configuration and not some abstract "benchmark" run on a purified installation I never use otherwise. Results confirm my impression that Chrome runs faster for most things - of course that in itself does not make it "the best" browser for individual or enterprise purposes.
