Limited to a 16Gb Capacity? you are kidding me right? You can still get the 32Gb or 64Gb iPad 2 from BestBuy and others for the same price as the new 16Gb. You aren't limited to Apple! So that is a +1 for iPad 2 being a better deal. This doesn't even take into account the possibility of getting open box models that would drop the price even more.
4G connection everywhere? Neither Verizon nor At&T offer 4G connectivity everywhere (not yet anyways). You are pretty much at a wash on this.
I haven't had hands on the new iPad to see how well it games, but we all know benchmarks mean squat compared to the real world experience. You have to put things into context here. Are we talking a majorly noticeable difference, something minor or hardly noticeable. If the new iPad makes a major difference then I could see that but if not then you have to give the nod to the iPad 2.
So that leaves pictures and screen clarity. From what I gather of most iPad users taking better pictures is hardly a selling point. So you are left with only screen clarity which obviously has to go to the new iPad (in areas where its used).
For most people that aren't chasing the latest greatest hardware the iPad 2 is "the better deal"

Seeing as how the iPad 2's GPU isn't going to have to render things larger than 1024x768, there shouldn't really be a difference.

Do I go for the faster processor and lighter weight or save 1/3 the cost on the older model?

Well I grant you he should have added the caveat "where available", but otherwise, he wasn't lying.
There's no 4G in my country either. He'll 3G is barely here!

You admit you haven't used the new iPad so how can your opinion be considered objective or valid?

Actually the iPad 2 has more relatively more power than the iPad. Every once of additional power coming from the quad core GPU and additional is needed to run the higher resolution display.
If you run a synthetic benchmark that does not take the screen resolution into account you will find the new iPad faster. If you run a 3D gaming benchmark at 2048 x 1536 for the new iPad and 1924 x 768 for the iPad 2, you will find the iPad 2 15% or so faster.

Then perhaps the iPad is not for you. It's good that you have choice. Others have different requirements, priorities, and aesthetic sense. They are neither more wrong or right than the requirements etal that you have established for yourself. Enjoy your choice
It's all good.

What part do you see as not being subjective or valid. All the points made are clearly valid with the exception of the screen which I clearly state would have to be a plus for some users. Some people will clearly see it as a major plus, while yet others won't, but you can hardly say the new iPad is a better deal based on any of the rest of the story because as I've clearly pointed out every other point I make in contradiction to the original story still stands.
