Yep, sure can, but if I want to get the most out of the GTX 680, then I should have a MOBO that supports PCIe 3.0.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but... see
this.
Of course, you can always pretend you didn't hear that and use the 680 as an excuse for a new mobo anyway.
No burst bubble. This was a bit erroneous: "The Asus P67 and P68 motherboards which advertise PCI-E 3.0 bus speeds are not true 3.0 spec, they are simply links that have their speeds increased to 8GT/s bus speeds. True PCI-E 3.0 on Intel will first be introduced in Ivy Bridge platform". First, there was a typo here in that as far as I know, there were NO P68 chipsets, they were Z68. Second, I have seen NO P67 Chipsets advertised as 3.0 ( but there may be a Gen 3 vesion of those ). Third, I was initially looking at the Z68 Gen 3 version of the MOBO I have in here now but am now looking at the Z77 Version. It is known that if you plug a 2.0 Card into a 1.0 slot, it is backwards compatible with a performance hit of about 3%. Not much in the scheme of things I guess. As for 2.0 - 3.0, that is bandwidth and at least in part, a physical ( hardware thing; chipset ). I believe the Gen Z68 MOBOs have gone through a change in the chipset to enable 3.0. The X79 & Z77 Chipsets are entirely new chipsets and designed for 3.0. As to whether or not Nvidia has "choked" the bandwidth to 2.0 in the drivers, I can't speak to that as they may or may not have ( doesn't make sense to do so though ). Why would they release a card advertised as 3.0 and then deliberately choke it back to 2.0? It doesn't make sense in these days of looking for increasing performance. I read through that thread and take it with a grain of salt. One other thing, It may be true that you will not get "TRUE" 3.0 with Sandy Bridge and will with with Ivy Bridge. Looks like a MOBO, Video Card and Processor Upgrade on the horizon.

Ugh, I think I may looking at a $1200 Upgrade here ( About $920 for the MOBO and Video Card alone + Ivy Bridge whatever the cost of that may be ).

Oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do to keep up. LOL As I've said though. I am only looking at things at the moment. The performance kick would have to justify the expense for me to go that route. I am already getting some good numbers with what I have.
