Is there a way to stop thread necromancy? I would think the IT guys at PCW could put up...say... a 180 day block. IOW, if a thread is 180+ days old, the forum won't let you Reply... you start a new thread. Whaddya think?

If they did that I would just make a quote of the locked post in a new thread and include a link to the locked thread too, if I thought it was important. That would make an even bigger mess, so I see no point in locking old threads.

As a rule, those things get buried and are rarely resurrected. Sometimes they do by potential spammers and at other times, new members browsing around and see something to comment on, irregardless of how old the thread may be. I don't see any particular issue with it though, as it will usually die again anyway.

Thread necromancy also happens to old users. It's known as user necromancy. Hello all.

Well, "thread exhumation" does happen but it'd be difficult to do. First, some threads are highly popular and the discussion goes on for a long time. If you want to introduce something like that you should measure the response time to the last post added. And instead of repressive locking such threads could, after given time (six months?), just be marked as "dead" to avoid accidental "exhumation". And the number of dead threads could tell a lot about a forum. Everyone would want to minimize it.

@ElfBane

As I Told You Before, People, Me Included, Who Asked Advice In The Past, Over Any Subject, Like To Give Answers To Their Own Questions, If Experience Allowed Them To Know A Little Bit More About That Particular Subject.

If You Can Not Be Bothered With Emails Telling You Someone Posted In An Old Thread, Why Do You Still 'WATCH' That Old Thread, In The First Place ?

You Can Toggle Any Thread 'WATCHable' Or Not.

How Hard Can It Be ?

Hasn't been too long ago, someone resurrected an old thread. I saw the topic, read thriugh the last response and added a comment or two of my own and posted. I then realized it was an old thread. :P :D I left the post as it may help some else who may dig down and find it someday.

You Can Toggle Any Thread 'WATCHable' Or Not.

How Hard Can It Be ?

1. I don't get emails notifying me of 6-year-old threads. Other esteemed members of these forums find them and decide to make unnessesary (and usually unhelpful) comments on 6-year-old threads. The only purpose being, it seems, to spam their post count.

2. I am aware of that function. As mentioned above, I don't use it.

3. How hard can it be to not capitalize the first letter of every word? You tell me.

Pleased to meet you, too.

Old threads never die, they just smell that way.

It is usually a new member that is browsing around and sees something and decides to respond to it not relaizing it is an old thread. It happens, and not really a big deal.
