Using Camera For Night Vision

I read that if you provide a infrared light source you can use a digital camera for night vision. From what I read this is easy with a camera from the 90's but newer cameras have a filter that prevents this, except for certain newer cameras on which you can disable said filter. I dont want to spend a fortune on the camera but I do want optical zoom.

Anybody know what camera I could use for this?

Ya Coastie I would expect to pay about 300 bucks.

BUT can that one be used like I said in first post ??

It supposedly will work with infrared.

When I did the search for Digital Infrared, that was one of the first that came up and the cheapest. It certainly isn't mentioned in the description, but Amazon tends to understate stuff anyway and fall short on all the info. I was reading through some of the reviews to see if it was mentioned, but haven't seen anything thus far.

Well, you may try Sony DSC-H9 camera and its Night Shot mode. It shouldn't be too expensive as it's not the very latest model. And btw, spying on your cat or something?
