Really? Proof reading is a lost art.

CON - Using the glasses must more distracting/obnoxious to fool with than texting currently is.

1. Would these be standalone devices, or would they be more like Bluetooth "terminals" connected to pocketed smartphones? THAT design might work with regards to required computing and battery power.

2. The designs in the pictures concern me for those wishing to use these while driving. The temple could obstruct peripheral vision causing a blind spot, not conducive to good driving.

They're making a version that'll clip onto your current glasses.

If Google glasses supported both tv and web browsing, it could allow tv commercials to link to the shopping and purchase page. Plus then video, games and shopping could all be in 3D!

What would make Google glasses a hit is if it supported all previous mediums, hyperlinking them all together, and in 3D (tv, books, games and apps, web browsing, shopping)

I can't believe how bad of an idea this is. We are already creating a schizophrenic public with cell phones... now we'll have people out there in the world who can't acknowledge the person in front of them, only the person they see in the corner of their eye.

If there are any recording capability built in to this it could be really problematic in two party consent states

con battery? biggest drain to cell phone batteries is the screen. no screen, less energy consumption.
And you can always get the solar cell hat. :)

If it works as well as the video, I'll give it a shot.

These seem like a neat little novelty item- something you look forward to "trying out" for a few minutes for the "wow" factor. I don't see them becoming main stream though- not for another 10-20 years or so.

They can just be smart about making this smart-phone like device, and just have something that would stop txt msgs and phone calls to the driver. Not just that, but this is one of many new devices that are coming out that will make life easier, such as an automatic car.

Seriously? Reduced peripheral vision?

People wearing these while driving should have their vehicle seized, their driver's license suspended and be subjected to a cavity search, including but not limited to their cranial cavity.

The point of the article where you mention that it will reduce line of sight, causing car accidents is true. If we know Google is smart, then let's us have a mode of "Drive" or "Normal". Those in "Drive" mode has access to a GPS which is small on the top left hand-side. This would also allow hands-free GPS wherever you go.

About the batteries, I do believe that they recharge on their own or require a plug-in activation to charge. I don't know if Google is planning to do wire-less batteries or not, because using glasses like these require electrics, like computers.

I have to agree with you about the privacy issue, we have seen big gaps of security that has been fixed (ex: Steam, Facebook). Google also tracks where you are. It could be fatal because assassins could hack through the system, abuse it by tracking a person's location, waiting for the right time to.. kill... the other person.

Disregarding the current state of battery technology, what about weight? Strangely enough, in all that I've seen in the news articles about them over the last day or so, that rather important bit of information is conspicuously absent.

Because of weight, I rather suspect they'll be quite uncomfortable to wear for anything other than an exceedingly short period of time. In that regard, an eyeglass clip-on version would be even worse. Plus, I'd hate to be walking or driving while using them, you'd be a quick accident waiting to happen. In other words, other than being a statement of conspicuous consumption, at best you'll have bought yourself an over-priced shelf ornament.

They won't really be practical until further advancements in electronics miniaturization, particularly battery technology, are available.

This will be a Google DUD, no doubt about it. A good thought, nice try, but no cigar....

That's because it's vaporware.

It weighs nothing, costs very little, has nothing wrong with it and is better than anything we have ever experienced.

Then someone tries making the product and spoils everything.

"Using the glasses will likely be more distracting than texting currently is. Google glasses places the data in front of your line of sight so that you probably will focus on the data rather than what’s around you. This could be more dangerous than texting or using your cell phone while driving." - I would have though several tens of thousands of jet and helicopter fighter pilots would disagree with you there.
