Does the Flashback trojan affect Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5? Why is Apple only releasing a Java update for 10.6 & 10.7?

I just went to the apple site and searched to a fare-thee-well. There is an April 3, 2012 update, which I installed -- it did no good whatsoever. Is there an April 6, 2012 update? If yes, can you include a link to someplace from which I can download it? The apple site is useless. Thanks. PS - I am using OS X Lion

Ever try using Software Update off of the Apple menu? Why go searching for something that's readily available with one click?

This is obviously a big, fat hoax! "Everybody" knows that Apple computers are completely impervious to malware even installing, let alone actually executing. I know this because "Everybody" told me so!

So a friend of mine who bought a Mac last year called me in a half panic, saying, "Man, I though you said Macs couldn't get infected with malicious stuff!"

I said, "Man, I never told you that. What I told you was that Macs are inherently safer than PC's in that regard because they are not targeted as much and it is much harder to infect them even if they were targeted."

He said, "So you're saying Macs can get infected, or not?"

I said, "Man, ANY computer can get infected if someone wants to do it badly enough. It may be harder with some, or less likely with some because no one wanted to put forth the effort, but there is no such thing as an impervious computer. Not yet anyway."

Hello--PCWorld copy editor here. I believe that the download discussed in this story (Java for OS X Lion 2012-001) is available at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1515 (you have to click the blue 'Download' button in the upper right portion of the page to start the download).

Na Na Na Na Boo Boo. MACs are no longer safe. Many were warned and many shrugged it off.

If you don't have the Java runtime installed, then software update will not offer to update Java. You can determine if Java is installed in preferences. If it is disabled and you check enable, it will offer to update it. I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you need it for something, then you won't need to worry about Java vulnerabilities at all.
