My first Linux distro was SuSE. I bought a box with the CD and manual about a decade ago. I like Yast a lot. I like KDE as well. I use KDE now, but on top of Ubuntu not SuSE. I have not tried SuSE in at least 4 years, I wonder what goodies they have ?

Wow, 15,000 customer bases in 20 years, and I thinking how does Apple supporters are claiming 11 million IPad sold running OSi. How can they celebrate 11 million against 15,000. Wait a minute, isn't million more than thousands? I guess there is reason to celebrate that after 20 years they are still alive.

While I'm sure you were going for funny, Suse "customers" aren't people. They're corporations. Comparing customers to sales of iPads isn't really comparing apples to apples.

As linuxrants7xpg stated, you were probably going for funny. SUSE Enterprise Linux Server (SLES) and SUSE Enterprise Linux Desktop (SLED), are their "pay for" versions. SUSE is one of the most stable and best supported versions of Linux that you will find. It has excellent hardware support as well. You can compare it to Red Hat. If you want a great version of Linux for your business, I highly recommend it.

That said, please do not mistake it for OpenSUSE. That is the free version. It is more cutting edge. You could compare it to Fedora, which is Red Hat's free version. They are quite similar in that they both use RPM (Red Hat Package Management) for program installation. It is a time tested package management system. You can install prebuilt packages without having to compile. It will also allow you to install with a compiler if you choose to do so. Linux gives you choices.

These two systems, SLES and SLED are both the final products that are put forth from the developers and tested through the OpenSUSE community. I have been running OpenSUSE for years now. I started back with version 9.0 and loved it so much that I bought the boxed version of 9.1 and have been running it ever since. I used to devote many hours of my time helping new users in the OpenSUSE forums. I don't have the time to do that nowadays, but I still love OpenSUSE. I just wish Adobe would give us versions of Photoshop and Photoshop Lightroom to run on Linux. If I had that, I would only have to run Windows at work. Don't take that wrong. I make my living administering Active Directory, so I am not a Microsoft hater. I just prefer to run Linux at home.

As a side note, I would much rather log in to comment using my Google login, but it wants me to agree to let your site have access to my Contacts List. That is not acceptable. Why would PCWorld need my contacts? HMMMMMMMMMMMM

openSUSE 12.1 KDE 4.8.1 is my favorite distro/desktop at the present time. I had been a Ubuntu user, but I've preferred openSUSE since 11.2.
