How can you run a DOS program such as chkdsk.exe or otherwise make sure defective spots on your harddisk or marked as bad? I am using Windows 7/64 Home on an eMachine.

Run it from the command prompt. (click start, type 'command prompt' or 'cmd', no quotes)

  • In Windows Explorer or from the Start menu's Computer option,, right-click the hard drive and select Properties.
  • Click the Tools tab.
  • Click the Check now button.
