Prediction: Apple will release a 7 inch iPad Mini, claim to have invented the 7 inch tablet, will be awarded a patent for a 7 inch slate tablet computer and commence suing.

Apple will release a 7.1 inch iPad Mini and insist that they still think that a 7(.0) inch screen is too small.

You seem to be confusing the iPad with the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The iPad only has a 9.7 inch screen.

Silly article: Such a misguided way of thinking. Apple is not isolated at the upper price range: that is exactly where premium brands and products should play where the margins are the biggest. Apple is laughing at the dilemma experienced by Google and others at the bottom end of the quality and design range. The same way that BMW has been laughing all the way through the global recession leaving GM and others to fight it out for the zero-profit end of the market. This can be said for almost all exclusive luxury brands. The last thing you should do if you are lucky enough to own such a brand is make it cheap. Marketing 101.

Prediction: Apple will continue following their own business plan and product development cycle without regard to the Android platform at all.

I very much doubt that Apple will give up an ecosystem based on the 4:3 aspect ratio for 16:9 or 16:10. Why?
  • Aside from the Kindle Fire (which Amazon does not promote as an Android tablet and that has its own closed ecosystem), other Android tablets have achieved little or no traction in the tablet market. Samsung has admitted as much.
  • Opening the door to yet another aspect ratio makes it harder for develop consistent quality and user interface.
  • Apple's product development cycle is much longer than other manufacturers and Apple does not "react" to the market. Apple seems to create markets.

It's a pretty big jump from Google coming out with a cheap, and poor quality 7" tablet to compete with Amazon's cheap and poor quality tablet, to Apple being deprived of its dominance.

That's very unlikely to happen. Saying that Apple is isolated at the high end is a joke! You mean that every other tablet that cost about the same has failed to make the slightest dent in the iPad's sales. If that's being isolated, I'm sure Apple is very happy to be so.

As far as the Fire is concerned, the estimates that they may have sold as many as 6 million during the holiday is being pared back by analysts to 3 million, and it's disappeared from Amazon's best selling lists.

Apple may come out with an 8" model. But if they do, even if it's priced at $299, 7" tablet manufacturers should be pretty worried.

So, you've seen it? You've seen the Google tablet? I'm assuming you must have since you're already claiming that it's "poor quality". I mean, how could you possibly know something like that if you haven't actually seen it or used it? You just couldn't!

Hm, nobody told me. Here all this time I've been using my Android tablet, I didn't even know it doesn't work well. All this time I've been thinking that it works amazingly well. Are there meetings or something where you guys find this stuff out?

Sounds like a lot of people, especially the geeks, want a level playing field. And jump at any news that it's around the corner. Hey Google, stop yapping and start shipping. Until eat Apple's dust.

Here I have to agree. Conflating personal opinion with objective reality is tiresome, whatever product is being discussed.
If I dispute one single point in a post, that should not be taken as an indication that I agree/disagree with any other point made by that poster or anyone else in the thread. Or anywhere else. Ever.

What google should do to recharge the android tablet market:

1)Drop out of the tablet making game(consumer electronic prices are falling 50% every year).

2)Sit down with all android tab makers.

3)Decide on one size for all android tabs and make it a standard which all tablet makers adhere to.

4)Focus all the resources, money, technology, energy on that particular sized tablets which could lead to pricing it attractively.App and later eco system development and adoption will also be easier if there is one standard size.

6)Kick back and relax :)

I could never see Apple pulling a move like this. They would be moving there device into a non-premium price bracket. The "premium" status is the basis of their entire company rebirth and not something they will give up for the quick buck.

Oh god you Apple-hating geek losers are so pathetic!

Consumer Reports already admitted the new iPad heat issue is really a non-issue and found it operates at normal range and actually cooler then some android tablets.
Then, it that wadn Nuffield for ya Cnet Betanews, and several others ran their own tests and found out that whole heat gate issue was bullshit...... So get over it...

And battery life???... Consumer Reports (a,omg several others)also completed that part of the review process and they all claimed the battery life is exactly what it claims to be,..
This is the specific reason the new iPad is not thinner and lighter...!

So stop hating on Apple and their customers just because you Re too broke and poor to afford your own iPad..... Just cuz you're a broke HO doesn't means the iPad isn't the wonderful MAGICAL product that it is and everyone with a brain even google also agrees.......
