Someone wake me if and when Google becomes a real player in social networking.

I use both but much much prefer Google Plus. Facebook is looking more and more like MyTwitterspace Instead of refining what they have and adding mature features they just keep changing it so you never get a handle on it. Usually not for the better as the service has become unstable and annoying since last year. That said I agree I don't want the same rabble on Google.

The avg time people are spending on FB is falling every year esp in developed world(early joiners)

Its growth in new users has almost come to a stop.

I am disgusted by people who care how popular products/services they use are. Who the hell cares how many people use facebook outside of your own social circle? I bet you barely
talk to 5-10 people regularly on FB, let alone 100+. So who cares that there are many other people using the service?

Aside from the owners of such services, who obviously care, user bases and activity levels are of great import to those who provide content, along with the SEs that index such content and use related metrics as input for their SERP algorithms.
