So you guys know how I posted about that Microsoft tech support scam a little while ago? Well, it looks like my attempts to clean it remotely have failed, and the machine is running slow (I suspect malware is doing this), so I figured I'd reinstall the OS.

I want to use nLite to slipstream things like SP3, IE8, WMP11, all those various windows updates (I got over a hundred of them on a clean xp sp3 install... that'll take a while). However, it seems that you need 3rd party packages to load ie8 and wmp into the install, and I'm not 100% sure I trust those. (I did a test with this, putting ie8, wmp, and sp3 into an image and installing it in a VM, and it seemed to work.) Additionally, I'd like to be able to pre-select things like the time-zone, keyboard layout, and language, but NOT things like the user accounts (I might be using this myself, as well on my grandmother's computer). (that last part isn't a big deal though) Also, it seems that it only gives me a folder with the XP CD files in it, and I have to burn those to a cd (or iso) with imgburn, using the bootable info from the regular XP CD (it can save that to an IMA file). By the way, I'm not slipstreaming drivers into this (as I said, I might also use this myself).

The main thing here is that I want to slipstream SP3, and maybe the individual updates, into the install. Additionally, I'm not sure if her copy of XP is retail or OEM, and I haven't found a way to make an XP disc completely independent of that (though I have found ways to change it), so this may be more of a pain to do than I thought. (worst case, I'll just put SP2 and SP3 onto a flash drive and install them manually after the install)

Does anyone have any experience doing this, and any suggestions here?
