I've had users call in and vent about problems in their lives. Needless to say, I'd counsel them and play the role of a psychologist. Either way I'm getting paid right? lol

you may be getting paid to counsel them but that's a waste of company resources

how would you properly justify the counseling session to your help desk manager?

There were more than a few times when I had to "play counselor" to an hysterical customer just so they could calm down enough for me to help them with their legitimate tech problem. For some people (especially field sales staff), a problem with their computer is practically the end of the world to them.

True. Well I did let it slide a couple times. It never really became an 'issue'. I just would get a kick out of it. Makes your day feel different per say..:P

Years ago I had a user call and state they did not know where to insert a document for faxing in her new fax machine they just installed "in" her computer. Yes it was an internal fax modem.

I had another person call and say their their coffee mug holder was broken. I told them we don't support those and she replied why not, it's part of my PC. She was talking about the CD tray in the CD drive.

I was working tech support for an ISP and the lady couldn't connect to her wireless router. I asked her what her lights read on her router and she told me she couldn't get to it. I just thought the tech installed it in an weird place. 20 min later I found out she was at work across town.

And thern there's the newbie who called tech support to ask for a new keyboard because her software was telling her to "HIT ANY KEY" and her keyboard didn't have an "ANY" key. I've actually had one user who kept using her old IBM typewriter because she couldn't find the carriage return on her computer keyboard.
