Pricey? This is cheap. First off this is a REAl professional workstation, unlike the Mac Pro. Look at this GPU for starters. This is a professional level GPU. All (4) pre-configured Mac Pro's come with consumer grade cards inside. Yet they are used by Pro who make music and video? This is the first AIO workstation that I have seen that is designed for the owner to upgrade its components as if it was a tower based PC. The hardware in this baby will run circles around pretty much any PC you can name right now...It uses the 1155 socket, which means HP can easily make several trim levels using 13, i5 and i7 and they could drop consumer grade GPU's inside as well. The comparison at the bottom of the page, is not a fair comparison to consumer grade AIO. If anyone has played any highend games on a Quadro 4000..give us an idea how much power we are talking compared to maybe the ATI 5770...lol

Gee... why would anyone think you have an axe to grind? Maybe it's because you bring up Apple products when the article itself never mentions it?

It's an impressive product, but at $5673, it's still pricey. Its performance may merit the cost for those who need it, but it's pricey nonetheless. It's odd to say it's the most powerful AIO that the author has seen, but it gets a 99 in performance when the Lenovo IdeaCentre B520 gets a 100 for performance.

I guess my memory is way too long. The bank and I owned a couple of SGI Crimson's as well as some Indigo workstations in the early nineties. They were pricey. This, despite HP's tarnished rep, is an incredible value. I don't know why Apple was mentioned- not germane to this discussion at all.

Why is it that these all-in-one PCs insist on using slot-load optical drives? A tray-load drive is much more reliable and takes up the same amount of space! IMHO, a slot-load drive is WORTHLESS!!!

So I take it that you won't be buying this nearly $6000 computer because it has a slot-load optical drive?

¿Can i put a GTX or Radeon cards in this all in one? obvioulsy a not high end card, if i put a 7770 in this machine , i satisfied or answer the cuestion when you are gaming the PC doesnt have overheat? i like the idea to play games

HP didn't make the Z1 to compete with AIOs from other vendors. For that you have the HP TouchSmart series which is currently in its sixth generation I believe, and does come with a touchscreen. The competitive models are not quite an accurate comparison because they are not so much business-class workstations as they are consumer-grade PCs. The touchscreen technology currently in the market, from any vendor, are not very precise and would not be beneficial to a working professional who needs touch input. It's why there are separate options for pros like Eizo monitors and Wacom commercial tablets. The Z1 is targeted for a very particular SMB market and does exactly what it was intended to. The rear port layout is another matter, however...

Touchscreens are, for lack of a better word, pure bullsh!t, and no I'm not sorry for the profanity. I've been waiting for a long time for HP to make something like this and almost had a heart attack when it was released. Currently I can buy this machine fully loaded for around $2,800, and IMHO it kicks any other all-in-one to the curb hands down. I'll be getting one shortly and can't wait to try it out with Adobe CS5.5. What really does it for me is the relative ease with which the machine can be opened up and serviced.
