Hello, TY to you guys for helping me get my Acer back to working condition but I have one more issue. The speakers are on and Windows say they're working but no sound. I'm running Vista on this Acer. I recently restored it back to "factory condition" with your help but I can't fix this issue. I went into device manager and everything seems to be "running" fine. Could someone give me some other idea's as to what I can do next to get the sound back??? TY

Hi. Have you clicked on the speaker in the task bar to open it and check to make sure the "Mute" isn't on?

No Flags in the device manager huh? If no flags, check your speaker connection. Should be plugged into the "Lime Green" port on the back of the computer. If that fails and you have a second set of speakers, try them.

No, no flags in the device manager under sounds etc...also, I do not have another set of speakers to try. They were working before the Acer went down. I do have them in the proper input. I can't understand when the system says everything's working and updated and yet no sound...

I don't know Vista at all but is there a control panel akin to Sound and Audio Devices in XP. It has always frustrated me that the device manager will tell you the device is working but if it's not selected in the audio tab of the control panel- zippo sound. Of course I'm just a user and not a techie but this has plagued me before

Well, I played around some more and got them working. I had to set the speakers as the "default device" as the "high def audio driver" was set as the "default device"!!! Not sure what the heck but hey, they work! TY to all...keep up the great work on a great site!!!!!!!

Ok. Apparently you don't have high def audio, just the standard stuff as it is an older machine. Glad you have some noise again. :D

That's probably the digital audio out (coaxal/optical). Good to know you got it working.

Yeah, that and headsets like the one I have ( Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D ). These things even have surround sound. I have them plugged into a USB port, at least the THX thing is and the headset is plugged into that.

That's got to be pretty cool when you're playing a game. :D Or even better, a gaming chair (wasn't someone talking about that a while back?). By the way, that panel also shows HDMI audio output if you have it (basically, all the different audio outputs).
