It is a really good time to have Linux skills. There is a sense that cloud computing (Specially Amazon) can enable a few good coders to feel like Neo in The Matrix.
Another point. If you already have a IT-related bachelors degree, I recommend Googleling the tools you need to learn to get the job done. A certificate could be a distraction. Think what needs to be done, what you need to get it done, and the Google for it. Then, move on to the next challenge. Google... I need a crash course on python+sql programming ( add sound effects )

But I thought Tony Bradley said Linux was dead..
It looks like Tony Bradley was mistaken or possibly misinformed. I'm not sure when the article you're talking about was posted, but I'm seeing information similar to this all over the place. Just search it and you'll see what I mean. I also hear about it more often from my professors. I'm currently working on my B.S. in Software, so I'll be looking into gaining a few extra Linux skills just in case this growth does continue; and there's no indication that it won't.

I believe he's talking about this article, which I loath to link to, but it's from this site anyway. Tony Bradley isn't just ignorant of Linux, he practically prides himself on it. He didn't even write just that one woefully misinformed article, but followed it up with a similar, equally ignorant piece.
Good luck with your BS. Linux skills added to a programming background can only be a good thing.
