So one app puts non-encrypted personal user information into unsecured area where other application can read them? Wait a second... Is that now an operating system fault?
Look, if application get access to user private info then user trust the application. No matter what platform it is - iOS, Android, Windows, Linux or whatever. If application the save that information in unsecured way, so others can see it - who is to blame?...
OK, I am sorry, this article is FUD. Author takes typical breach of trust problem applicable to any.. not even a device - any relation in general - and blame exclusively Android for the existence of the problem.
In short, you know, some companies sell users private information to third parties, therefore Android is bad.

No it's not. Open source is less secure. If you don't believe me check out the number of malware apps Android had while it was still full on open source and compare it to iOS and Windows Phone 7. Hell Android had more malware than iOS even when iOS had more users. Also open source means anyone can create for it meaning people who create malware can create for it and since Google never had to pre-approve apps, they were allowed to go into the market without approval. Being closed sourced means only the company who has the source can create it meaning they have better control of it and the apps which equals more security.

I do not think you understand how open source projects work. You cannot download the source, make malicious modifications to it, upload your code back, and expect it to be distributed everywhere. There is always a group of maintainers for major open sources project, who will examine the changes you make before allowing the change to take place permanently.

As for Android, it open source works slightly differently. They do not accept changes from the general public, afaik, and probably only accept code changes from select vendors. It is only source in the sense that anyone can download the source code.
