I guess for now all you can do is dream about building a Sandy Bridge-E rig... :(

Meh - once all is said and done, Intel may yet be onto their next big thing, and I will have an even better excuse to buy even bigger! Always look at the bright side.

Also - I have found reason to start a new thread... just haven't gotten to it yet.

Yeah, as usual they already have something in the pipeline. Forgot what the Code name was. :P For some reason you cannot get an EVGA GTX 680 from Newegg as they never have them and they have the best prices. Oh well, I'm in no hurry to do anything at the moment anyway and still looking things over, which is keeping me on the fence about anything. I'm benching 20,835 with 3D Mark Vantage as it is, so am not complaining about what I have.

Just read this:

http://gizmodo.com/5...ximum-pc-review

In my case, the IB is the clear choice, but SB to IB isn't.

Based on the reviewers opinion a copy/paste from the artical:

But let's get back to our questions: Do you buy a Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge for your new build? This one's easy. Ivy Bridge, my friend. With the price of 2600K and 3770K exactly the same, there's really no reason to buy a 2600K unless you're limited by your motherboard's support for it.

Should you upgrade from your Sandy Bridge to an Ivy Bridge? No. It would be foolish to think that just because Ivy Bridge is here your Sandy Bridge chip is a piece of junk. The only reason we could see upgrading is if you're coming from a lower-end, limited Sandy Bridge chip or need better integrated graphics, but otherwise, Sandy Bridge has plenty of life left in it.

It's amazing that the IB cpu can run 100 games out of the box. The 3570K has HD4000 3D graphics. Depends what you do, this chip can save you money on a descret VC.
Question. Using a 5770 descret card, does the cpu graphics boosts it's performance?

EDIT:

I hope to use my zalman, but it has an astric for the 1155 socket. Hopfully mine came with whats needed to install it.

Do have a CM H/F that will will fit.

To Answer, no it will not. UNLESS the game explicitly uses OpenCL code. Then that code could be run on the IGP.

Both fans will work, however, I would personally suggest a 120mm Zalman if you go that route.

Hey Rommel, The cooler shouldn't be a problem as Intel uses a different backing plate that should have come with it. I believe the Bolded stuff in your post comes from MaximumPC as I have seen that. :D In your case, you are moving up from the AMD, so it is a no brainer.

Yes it does.

Thats why before it I typed, "Based on the reviewers opinion a copy/paste from the artical:"

@ WJ, I agree, the zalman is choice #1 of the two.

It works great and looks so freaking cool in my tower.

This will take about 2 months to get to the pull the trigger point.
I am glad this thread was started and you guys are always a big help.

Always good to plan ahead and have your ducks in a row. You should have a 120mm fan with the CPU cooler with the Ivy Bridge to be on the safe side. If it works well well the the AMD ( with it's high TDP ) then it should be fine and I believe you OC'd that thing some as well.

You know, I have been going round and round here and I'm not so sure the 3.0 Card will come close to saturating the 2.0 bus, so may be a non issue, except for the fact that Newegg never seems to have any GTX 580 Cards. :P

Well, once the 690's find themselves in demand, that should alleviate most of the supply issues for the 680's.

Well, http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814130781. It would seem someone bought the two or three they may have had. :D Then again, that Mars II went pretty quick @ $1500 a pop.

I doubt it - after all, the 690 IS just two 680s in SLI, and I've heard that nvidia is having issues with the 680 yields.

First, the whole 2 680's bit, yes that is WHY they will be in demand. It will be easier to find a 690 than two 680's. Also, the 690 has the potential to be more powerful.

Second, I have seen no indications of poor yields, only massive sales.

Eh - give it a couple weeks. Then we may even see fancy cards with custom cooling. EVGA has a terrific custom cooler - much like the MSI Twin Frozr.

Geez, I'd be happy to see some of GTX 680's in stock............period. Everybody else wants well over $600 for the same card and they have them in stock.

Rommel is making a good move and wil really be happy when he does as he will see the difference..........big time. :D Right now, all I'm looking at is a Video card update, but may go to the Z77 version of this MOBO...........maybe. So far, I haven't been able to justify a jump from the 2600k to the 3770k.

I don't see any reason to upgrade the motherboard - as waldo said, you don't get PCIe 3.0 (which I doubt you'll realistically notice) with a Sandy Bridge processor anyway.

You do get 4 USB 3.0 Ports ( Native ) and I think a few other things. I'm not concerned with the PCIe 3.0 at this point, as I don't think the GTX 680 will saturate the 2.0, so no problem. The MOBO is a maybe anyway.

Yeah, I'm not convinced there's any benefit with chipset USB ports over 3rd party controller ones. I don't know, maybe you need to knock some budget sense out of me. :D

Looking forward to it coastie.
If things work out right, I'd like to upgrade with a SSD at that time as well.
