Cincinnati Milacron Introduced the first Industrial robot controlled by a computer around 1978. It was call the T-3 (tomorrows Technology Today), and led to a vast expansion of indutrail robots being used in the auto industry. It was also the first robot to be programed from the tool center point a huge advance in robotics

In focusing on large technological leaps, you overlooked one of the most culturally important robots to date: the Roomba. Obviously, as a vacuum cleaner it's a fairly simple device. But that simplicity is precisely what's allowed it become the first robot to truly cross the "Jetsons" line -- introducing autonomous functionality into the everyday lives of consumers. This is no small feat.

This was only a list of 10, had I extended the list, the likes of the Roomba would certainly be in there!

somehow I think opening up the list to fictitious robots (like R2 and Tom Servo) would have ballooned the list to "History's 100 Most Influential Robots"

In 1975 we used a small air cushion mounted robot to do some radioactive dirty work. Really handy and not subject to any time constraints a human worker had to contend with in a high exposure field. The cameras mounted onthe unit didn't fair too well though, lost clarity and contrast after a couple of days. Too many free electrons impacting the image device(orticon) caused loss of sensitivity. The same thing that the Japan plants are facing with trying to do the cleanup of their damaged reactors.
