Your kindle fire illustration needs a little work. Someone started with the right status and menu bars but then pasted in a screen from a Gingerbread phone running a live wallpaper.

Not the case at all. My Kindle Fire looks exactly the same. I use GoLauncher and and Beautiful Widgets and can pick the same Live Wallpaper. Kinda nice actually, although prefer Beautiful Live Weather.

first of all...i thought that all ereaders to date had the ability to switch from portrait to landscape. so the kindle is only just getting what should have been there in the first place. i started with the very first sony ereader years ago and changing orientation was a given. second, for that nameless device you are speaking of, the orientation can be locked so that it remains in one orientation.

You are obviously not familiar with the kindle. The kindle touch was the only kindle that didn't have landscape. All the others had it and have had it for some time. It was an odd omission for the touch that has now been corrected.
