I am having sound problems. When I play a CD in the PC, it acts as though it were scratched or skipping.
It's not the CD because when I play music from the harddrive, it does the same thing. If I go to Pandora, ditto.
Now it didn't do it when streaming online music from Pandora at first, but now it does it all the time. It also
will do this on some games when music is playing. I am running Windows XP Pro, onboard audio on an MSI KA790GX mb.
My drivers for the onboard audio are up to date. Windows is totally updated. Is this hardware, or Windows problems.
Would adding a sound card help if it's hardware. Please help.

What happens if you use a different set of speakers or use your existing ones on another PC? If that doesn't work, try uninstalling the audio controller in device manager, rebooting, and reinstalling the driver.

Try the suggestions given above because it will:

A. Help you rule out the speakers as a suspect
B. Rule out driver related problems

Check the speaker cables too.

And if the problem persists, it could be the onboard audio chipset that's gone bad.

If you can borrow a sound card (or don't mind getting a new one), you can be sure about the problem by isolating it. Remember to disable the onboard audio though.
