As a matter of fact, as a computer fix technician I'd say the user is the bigger cause of slow computers. Everyone installs something they need with something they don't need. I.E. - you begin to install a recording sofware that comes with a bundle toolbar software. Have anyone stopped to read that this toolbar is optional? No, everyone keeps hitting next until computer starts the auto-task. You'd be scared a lot of junk we can find in add/remove programs of our clients, from toolbars to emoticons and a lot of useless stuff the only eat memory and slow down your computer.

I have SSDs in all my pcs at this point. Bought Crucial M4 drives for each pc I have and the difference is dramatic. It completely changes the experience of using Windows for the better.

Interesting, when I use msconfig I found 21 processes/pgms being auto started. Using winpatrol (free) I found 64 of which I had 15 disabled. Anyone explain the discrepancy? Either way I think there are other reasons for a slow start.
