Other than getting this on 4/22, can anybody give me a good reason why I'd prefer this to the Galaxy S3 ?

While SIII will likely be a superior device spec wise (the Galaxy Nexus is already 6 months old), that may not be the whole of what people are interested in. If you prefer a device with a stock Android experience and with an extremely vibrant developer community that pumps out customizations on a daily basis... there's no question in my mind - the Galaxy Nexus would be your choice.
6months from now, we'll be learning about the next latest and greatest device that will be superior even to the SIII. But the Galaxy Nexus will continue to be supported by both Google and the developers around the world. The SIII will be a great phone and it will be a great choice for any Android fan, but it will have the added complexity of carrier specific requirements and regulations that will inhibit making the phone exactly what you want.
Of course, if none of that matters to you... by all means, go with the SIII.

source: source.android.com:
Galaxy Nexus is supported only in GSM/HSPA+ configuration "maguro" and only if it was originally sold with a "yakju" operating system.

No Google support for this phone. The only way you get updates from Google is if your device is listed in the AOSP list. This device is not, and will still have its updates built by Sprint before being released. This article is misleading in that respect.
