I need to know if my mother board (bios A11) can support a Phenom II X6.

Dell A03? Is that a bios revision or something? What's the model? (inspiron, dimension, studio, xps, whatever...)

The motherboard is an 0F896N rev. A03 to be precise. I bought a 2.7 GHZ Thuban 1045T, plugged it in and everything, but the computer never booted, it just turned on with no screen prompts or anything. I removed it, realizing I hadn't upgraded the BIOS, but messed up the pins in a freak accident. I've updated the BIOS to A11, but I am not sure whether the Thuban is compatible or not. I've heard that the X4 is, but I really need to know. I cannot afford for a second processor to fail a boot.

No. You need a motherboard with a socket that supports FX and as far as i know that one doesn't.

I've read that it only supports up to Phenom x4 CPUs, 95W max (and that's the highest-end that it shipped with). Therefore, I'm not certain that the Phenom x6 will work (even though the 1045T is 95W), and thus I wouldn't bother trying it.

You can put a FX (bulldozer) CPU in an older AM3 OR AM3+ socket (as long as you have bios support, which might be a problem on OEM machines like his), and besides, he's talking about a Phenom (x6 Thuban).

Yeah, I was brain dead again. He did sat it was a Phenom II x6, and that would be the Thuban. He would most likely have to upgrade the BiOS which he may or may be able to do with the MOBO he has in there.

That motherboard doesn't appear to support anything from the Phenom II lineup. Only first generation.

So an old Phenom X4 is my best bet for an upgrade. Found a Phenom X4 920 processor online for about $50. That should work, right?

I'm worried that it might not work, but I'm contacting Dell right now to try to find out.

Edit: Man, they're useless... the rep said "I would do my best to help you." lol :D So... they're not trying to help me now? (it sure seemed like that...) Anyway, I found the info here:

http://en.wikipedia....on#Inspiron_546
AMD Sempron LE-1300, AMD Athlon LE-1660, AMD Athlon X2 7550, AMD Phenom X3 8650 or 8750 or AMD Phenom X4 9750.
Apparently that last one is 125W, though AM2+. To be on the safe side, I wouldn't go for any more than that.
