What kinds of programs are you running, what size of laptop do you want, what battery life do you need, and what's your budget?

Mostly Chrome is my first station after I turn computer on, music, sometimes I am photoshoping and I use it sometimes to read some e-books for my college. Size is irrelevant, battery life maybe around 6 hours or more and if price can be under 500 $.

Maybe something like a Thinkpad Edge E425 or E525? (depending on whether you want a 14" or 15" one)

I would actually say check out the Lenovo Z575. At least for now, you can grab them up for $479.
"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'" -- Isaac Asimov

Look for a Core i3 based laptop, with 4Gigs of RAM, a 320GB HDD, 13" HD screen, good battery life and you should be set.
ASUS is a good brand to choose from. Dell's not bad either.
Acer will probably have the cheapest laptops, although I'm not a big fan of their build quality.
Lenovos are pretty decent. Samsung ones look good and feature decent specs.
I guess in this case it depends on which brand offers you the best deal.

Dell and Acer both seem to make crap, from my experience.
