I like the Altec-Lansing unit to provide very good clarity and superb sound if you get the one with the included sub-woofer. Creative makes some nice units but are over priced for the functionality. Logitec is nice but again, a bit overpriced.

I have had excellent luck with Logitech speakers lasting a good long time.

I have a Logitech 2.1 set (S220, it was $25) and like it - the sound quality is pretty good, they were cheap, and I haven't had any issues with them.

If overall audio quality is top priority, I'd recommend the Altec Lansing unit.

Little late to the party here, but I have the Logitech Z323 speakers and they are excellent (at least, for a non-audiophile :D ). Great sound when gaming.

I am having a set of 2.1 Creative and I recommend you to go with creative if this suits your budget because the overall performance and durability matters here and my speakers are more than 4 years old and works great. I have never get a complaint about them.
