I would like a small quad core linux computer with about 2 or 4 GB of ram for the fastest possible Linux at a cheap price

WHY? They are a massive step backwards in terms of processor efficiency, and productivity. They run core designs that date back nearly 15 years. ARM, ATOM, and the 80486 have much more in common than you realize.

Isn't the Mele 1000 chip using Arm v7 architecture while the Raspberry Pi is Arm v6? If someone can confirm this difference (or not), would that be a substantial difference?
