Yes, just the latest in a long line of Sony epic fails.
Sad that a once great company should sink to the level they are at now.

I don't see how you can make this reference. It clearly states that the software works in Windows, Mac, and Android Phones/Tablets. The only Sony specific hardware I read are the camera, TV, digital frame, and PS3 (maybe) which makes sense unless other companies want to incorporate the "PlayMemories Online" application to their own hardware.
Anyway, there are many other companies that create software that only works for their own hardware/OS. Examples: Apple, Windows, Nokia, Blackberry, Nintendo, HP, Samsung, Google.

Where did you read that this service is for Sony products only? It will work with Mac or PC and any photo source. The fact that Sony products are optimized to use the service is no different than what Apple has done for years.
