Cmos Checksum Error, Defaults Loaded

Hi Folks,

I am getting the above mentioned error(CMOS checksum error, Defaults loaded) when I boot up my machine. The maching than sort of re-boots by itself after that and it loads windows 7 proper. What should I do to recitfy the above error? Thanks in advance.

Hi. I would be looking the the CMOS battery on the Motherboard ( somewhere around the expansion slots ). It may need changing.

I agree with coastie. The CMOS battery is probably right next to the PCIe x16 slot (where you can put a graphics card), and is typically a CR2032. (you can get these at a place like CVS, for instance)

The biggest clue to whether the CMOS battery is dead or dying would be what date your system comes up with after it does finally boot. If it is an older date and not current, the battery is surely the fault. Loading the default settings is also enother clue.
