Anything but an Apple is fine with me since Jobs made the statement that he wasn't responsible for helping the American economy. If my money is going out of the country, I'll make sure that Apple doesn't profit from my dollars.

To Herbjones, I read in the link below that "...Transformer Pad 300 includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Wi-Fi hotspot as well as Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and EDR wireless technology."

Wonder if it will do better than the 2000 per-orders of the Prime and 80,000 units in 3 months (that included the holidays)?

"Asus is upgrading its tablets at a furious pace, and the new tablet comes just six months after it shipped the Transformer Prime..."

It's interesting that while Apple gets clobbered in the tech media for "exploiting" Chinese workers, these Asian companies (Asus, Acer, Samsung, etc etc etc) get off scott free, being characterized positively as developing at a "furious pace". I would love to see PC World do a tour of the Asus factory to look at working conditions there, and to talk to the employees about their wages and working hours and the like.

Of course, we know that this won't happen with PC World...

A gaming device? replace a laptop? To play what Solitare? quad cores is fine, but 1.2 ghz is sad. 1 GB of memory and 32-64gb of storage isnt enough to do anything. My Black Berry torch has a 1.2 GHz processor with 1 gb of ram and 32 gig of of storage. I love asus products but these tablets are week. Might want to raise the bar a tad and smoke apple, the Ipad still sucks cows milk, but have todo better than its specs.

Couldn't agree with you more! Jobs' decision to make Apple a "closed" system should have killed that company long ago - if it wasn't for Microsoft bailing them out, they would have tanked. I'm saving my $$ for an Asus with the optional keyboard!

Please stop calling this a successor or an upgrade to the Prime, it is neither. This is a new variant designed to slot in below the Prime, and the prime will continue in production. Once the Infinity variant is released, this will be the intro level, the prime will be mid range and the infinity will be the high end.

When you compare it to the prime, the 300 lacks a camera flash, has a lower intensity display, comes with less storage and both it and its keyboard are plastic cased (which makes it less expensive to produce).

I can't find where you found the $379 price for this tablet. Amazon sells it for $399, Asus via Amazon sells it for $449.

To spinoza, I agree that all of the manufacturers in China are guilty of poor labor practices, but my beef is the attitude that the late Jobs expressed very overtly toward the American economy. He wouldn't have had the opportunities in China that he had in the U.S. He owed no one anything, but at least he didn't have to rub his selfish attitude in the faces of the American workers who have lost just about all significant manufacturing jobs to China. In any case, I'm not buying a thing from his company.

Apple iPad now starts at $399 direct from Apple, not $499. Please correct.

I bought the original Transformer thinking it would be a lightweight machine, a barely adequate more portable replacement for Asus netbook. But when the kids and I were watching all the Superbowl ads in HD on it (all embedded on single page), we decided we wanted a bigger screen. But my PS3 wouldn't even load the page. And even my quad-core server with 16GB of RAM fared no better than the tablet and actually crashed more frequently.

It's not about the specs, Android is very efficient, and I am still really enjoying my original Transformer, which Asus upgraded to ICS.

"The new iPad" starts at $499. The article is about this year's models.
