I bought one of these yesterday. Only need wifi, so no 3G.I've owned an Apple iPad2, an Asus transformer, and my wife has a Kindle. I like the 7" size of the Kindle so this was appealing. I've only played with this for about 2 hours but here are my early feelings:1.Great price for an ice-cream sandwich tab; 2. ok screen;3. decent performance;4.nice size and feel;5.not the tab I want (Samsung 7.7) but it'll do for now.

How much money was really saved by going with 8gb of memory? Even at retail 8gb is what $30? I am very close to out of memory with the 8gb in my HTC Evo 4G and that's just with music and photo's. If I buy a tablet the minimum for a fixed memory device would be 16gb.

Fortunately, this is not a fixed memory device.
It accepts MicroSD cards for expansion.

There is no Tab 2 3G. Verizon has the Samsung 7.7 for $499 with 2 year contract with 4G. I explored the Tab2 yesterday at Office Depot; ran smooth but was disappointed ICS version 4.0.3 didn't have face lock.

"Both Amazon and Barnes & Noble require you to purchase apps only via their respective storefronts."
Not true for the Amazon Kindle Fire. There is a setting (easy to find) that allows side-loading of apps purchased outside of the Amazon store.

I bought this Tab yesterday and signed up with Dropbox, but only got 2GB. Melissa, how can I proceed to get 1-year service w/ 50GB free? Please advise. Thanks!

The longer boot time could also be related to the different androit version.

You can get a 8GB Sandisk MicroSD card on amazon for $5, so yeah, it is a bit stupid here. Still, it costs $20 to get a 32GB microsd card there (also sandisk), so this isn't a big deal. (anything above 32GB is SDXC, not SDHC, and I'm not 100% sure this supports that)

Even with setting on, Kindle still doesn't do Android Store for me!!

Just did that yesterday. Figure I might as well play with Honeycomb for a month before upgrading.
I just couldn't wait any longer for the Google Nexus, need a new toy to take on vacations. ;)

You have to go find the apk for the app you want, e.g. Nook, and download it to the Fire and then install it.

The GT 7 Plus is a MUCH better value than this newer GT 2 7 model... better camera and processor. Everything else is essentially the same. The price of the older unit has dropped but the unit itself has been phased out so it's hard to find one new though refurbed units are available. Stick with the GT 7 Plus and wait for ICS's release.
