"A phone battery should last--even under heavy use--for the 16 or 17 hours from when you wake up until you go to bed."

In fantasy land, you know, the plave where Jack Bauer gets full coverage deep inside a concrete bunker like building.

In the real world a typical smartphone might last 16-17 hoursunder very light use. Except for perhaps the new Razor Maxx I don't believe that any high end smartphone with its standard battery will last anywhere close to that long under heavy useage.

The only way to get that kind of life from a smartphone battery is to use it like a feature phone.

And I don't know what Android phone you use, but there is no such thing as Battery & Data Manager in the settings section of my HTC Evo 4G.

atrix has such a setting...just saying. article seems like common sense nothing worth reading. my kid has juice pack for iphone, not a fan of iphone but like the juice pack battery/case now he can finally charge his phone with micro usb like a normal phone. not a solution for every one but if you have to use a case why not put add an external battery at the same time. if i found such a pack for atrix i wouldnt hesitate to pick it up. i keep a zagg portable battery in my car charged but dont find i need it as there are power outlets or usb available most times i need juice even long trips.

I asked advice at the Droid Forum. I was told that if I didn't need 4GLTE to go to the settings and change it to 3G, since I rarely need 4G speed and I can always change it back, I switched. Now my battery lasts all day sometimes a day and a half depending on use.

I completely agree that 16 - 17 hours is a fantasy with even medium usage.

BTW, you can check battery usage on an HTC EVO 4G at menu/settings/about phone/battery/battery use. To make it easier add a shortcut to the screen of your choice: Long press where you want it, then Shortcut/Settings/Battery use. See? Easy peasy.
