Google can be quite overzealous when it comes to techical searches when it comes to searching for Linux, compiling programs from source and getting error messages, examples in C# or ASP.net languages, and any other things.

One of the example is "Zarafa Debian Sid" (no quotes) when Google bolded the word "Squeeze" or "testing" since I don't think Squeeze is the same for Sid or Unstable.

Sometimes, Google will also ask me "Do you mean ..." when I am searching for something when it comes to intentional misspellings like I want to type "gzFile_s" but Google asked me did I mean gz Files which is not helpful at all.

If only there are any technical-related search engines that does not have the autocorrecting feature so that I can focus in searching for things that are relevant to me instead of asking "Do you mean ..." but then I'd go like "no, Google. Stop asking me that question and handle the search with the query as exactly as I have typed."

One thing I've found is that I personally get less spam results on Bing than Google. It seems that every company that does SEO on the planet optimizes for Google, and ignores optimization for Bing. In this particular case, Bing often gives me the results I'm looking for.

Ultimately I use both about equally, so I don't really have much of a preference. But when it comes to searches that have been optimized to death, Bing seems to be a little better about cutting through the garbage to get to relevant sites. Not necessarily because their engine is better, but because it isn't being targeted quite as much.

Also, slight bit of guidelines at the main search page would be highly appreciable, for instance finding withing a certain website, how to find the indexed pages of any particular website, linking details, what one can expect by using a dot/period in its search query, so on & so forth.

I choose Coke because it is better than Pepsi.

I choose Bing because it is better than Google.

However, the one thing, I feel, Google does better than Bing: image search. If I can't find the image I am looking for, I can always find it on Google.

"...Bing assumed that it knew what we really wanted to search for..." What else does one expect from Microsoft?

I Often Test The 3 Majors With The Same Exact Search, But I Prefer GOOGLE Because I Do Feel BING And YAHOO Are Almost Always Deciding What Information I Should Or Should Not Have Access To.

Is GOOGLE A Better Internet Information Collector ?

I Do Not Know.

GOOGLE Does Not Seem So Orwellian, And I Do Want To Be The One Deciding What Is Spam And What Is Not.

I am partial to Google and here is why ?

1) Microsoft may be the one who made me "NOT LIKE" BING ... Most of the time (7 out of 10) times I use HELP in Microsoft Office, ... I obtain non pertinent, non relevant answers and ... and each time it says : POWERED BY BING

2) I tried BING on its own and again ... it seem I always get to answers from BING that are directly or indirectly... related to Microsoft and little or nothing on search related to competitors of Microsoft ... Maybe I am imagining this because I am partial ... but when the obvious link does not pop out in a search I am puzzled.

3) Google is now a verb ... everybody has been google-ling for what seems decades ... why change a good thing that seems to work each time I google.

Another thing people overlook is what happens after you get the search result. Recently google has started redirecting all the search results. If you click on the link instead of going directly to the site, you first go to the google site and then get redirected. Google gets to known not only what I searched but what I clicked in the results. The result about a sec of lag!!! I use firefox and greasemonkey to get rid of the redirection. Right now Bing does not do that, Never know when they will start!

Not a very helpful article, and not really a "showdown". The article basically says, "It's sixes, do what you want." I could have figured that out by myself, without wasting time reading the stupid article.

Re: "And then there's that catchy name. If you're looking for information, no one is going to tell you to "bing it."

Sorry, but in our household we DO use this term, exclusively!

in no way shape or form should a crappy half assed search engine should be compared to the search engine that revolutionized how we browse the web. Google>>>>>Bing. Bing is by far the worst search engine i have ever used. if it wasnt forced on consumers like internet explorer is, then i know most wouldnt use it.

Exactly dude. Microsoft forces their products through their OS and since they are a business monopoly, they usually get away with it. You can easily tell that this has been the company's tactic for some time now, seeing as they have missed literally every big jump in tech/software in the last 10 years by Apple and Google.

Competition is always healthy and monopoly is bad. That's why it's a good thing to have bing on the side.

You can use either Google or Bing to educate yourself on why it's incorrect to capitalize every word in every sentence.
