Hi

I'm having this error from time to time while booting from Windows 7 65 Ultimate:

"Master HD Error press f1 to continue".

I simply reboot and Windows starts correctly and all my drives works fine.If i choose F1 then the drive 5 is missing.

I have 5 Hard drives all SATA 250,250 and the rest 500 GB (Western Digital).

Everything has been fine since a couple of years and now i´m having this issue.
I tried the SMART on on BIOS and shows that the drive 5 (which is the one that is generating this problem) works fine.
I downloaded the WD tools and they show no problems at all.

My MSI MOBO (P45 NEO) is updated by MSI live.

Any advice to solve this issue?

Core 2 Quad 6600
RAM 8GB Kingston
MSI P 45 Neo (Bios and drivers updated)
5 HDs WD
Windows 7 Ultimate 64.

TIA

Does this happen if the machine was already warm when you turned it on? (if you had just used it and then turned it off)

Download speedfan, go to the smart tab, and click on the online analysis button. Does it say anything about the spin-up time?

Finally, are you sure that the cables connected to the hard drive are snug?

Hi

This happens the first time i turn it on.
Then if i reboot the PC using the reset button, everything works fine...
Ok the Speedfan depth online analysis says:
Spin up time:Good
Overall fitness and performance is 95%

Maybe i need to buy a new sata cable?
Could it be some driver?
I'm updating with MSI live, what about if i install older mobo disk drivers.
Never had this issue before i used MSI Live update.

Kind Regards

I have noticed something.
When i receive the "master disk error" in Bios the faulty HD is 5.
In Speedfan the HD is named 0 instead 5...
Does this have anything to do with my problem or nothing at all.

Thanks again.

Hmm... which hard drive did you test in the WD tool? (perhaps it's the first drive then?)

If there is a restoer point before you started the updates, try going back to that and see if the problem persists.

Coastie, this sounds like something at the bios level, not the OS level, so that won't make a difference.

"Hmm... which hard drive did you test in the WD tool? (perhaps it's the first drive then?)"

In fact i checked all five HD 1,2,3,4,and 0 (which seems to be 5)All fine.

"Coastie, this sounds like something at the bios level, not the OS level, so that won't make a difference."

I have all HD settings in Auto,SMART Enabled.
I have disabled recommended settings for DAW,like EIST,PCI IDE Busmaster, etc.
Gonna check latter my BIOS and will be more specific.

Thanks

But does speedfan say anything about the spin-up time? I wonder if something might be failing. (you might want to check the cables to the hard drive though, just in case they're loose)

Yep,Speedfan said "Spin up time:Good" "Overall fitness and performance is 95%"

Today the Pc started twice without a problem.

I checked the cables, which seems all fine, not twisted and tight.

Nevertheless as soon as possible i´ll replace the HD 5 cable just in case.

You may want to try setting a delay for the hard drive in the bios if you can. (for a few seconds) By the way, the SATA controller mode (called raid on yours) can be IDE or AHCI, it doesn't make a difference with hard drives for the most part (AHCI has some little performance improvements, but it's not a big deal). For SSDs however, you want AHCI (for TRIM garbage collection mainly).

Thanks for your kind help.

I changed the sata cable and still having the same issue.
Don't see any option for delay the HD in Bios.
Well i believe that will live with this issue until update my computer.

Best regards
