we could well see sub-$100 tablets
Funny, I wonder where would the pure e-readers go when that happen? $40-50?

By then e-readers will be obsolete because people want devices that can do more than one thing. This is what consumers think when they purchase a device. If a e-readers drops down to $50 they would think for another $50 I can get a tablet and browse the web, watch movies, play games, and also use it as a e-reader. You can see that as smartphones, media players, television sets, and etc advance forward

Yeah, I personally can't wait for manufacturers to stop trying to chase Apple and instead engage in demolition derby style competition with each other in a race to the bottom.
Sounds like the netbook saga is about to repeat itself, wherein manufacturers search for the lowest feature set and most mediocre execution that consumers will still spend money on.

I disagree about e readers, personally I can't read an LCD screen for more than an hour or so but e readers I can read for about 6 hours a day (about what I can do with a book). I think you are right about wanting a device that does it all as long as there isn't a limiting factor like reading LCDs, you get a tablet that can do e ink as well, e readers will all but disappear.

You'd think that people would smarten up after a while and stop being tricked into buying "affordable" junk.
I know I learned that lesson many years ago. Price should never be the primary consideration when evaluating a possible purchase.

I always pay good money for good products, without hesitation. And when I come across shareware that really helps me, I pay the developer.

Windows 8 (faster w/tab support than 7, better battery life)
Quality Digitizer (For better pen support)
Ivy Bridge (Better battery life, faster). ARM is a possibility depending on software support.
And a 1920x1200 screen as I prefer/need the larger workspace provided.
With the at least one USB 3.0/SD Reader and Bluetooth/Wifi.
Unlike most people that I have seen, I don't need a "toy" or a "gadget" with "apps". I need a tool with programs for work and college that gets the job done and efficiently.

I discovered the same thing when I recently picked up a Lumia 900: I no longer needed the Kindle Fire, as much as I liked that thing (I thought Amazon did a great job with it). I ended up selling the KF to a friend and I'm waiting for something like the ASUS Transformer with WinRT on it so I can sell/gift my netbook.
Media Center: Core i3 3220 - 128GB Plextor SSD (boot) - 1TB Samsung HDD (storage) - Radeon 4350 - 8GB G.Skill 1333 RAM - Biostar ECO HD61V kit - Win7 HP 64-bit
Surface RT - Lumia 900
