I like the "Typhoid Mary" analogy. Something I hadn't though of before that Macs can carry/spread a virus that has no effect on them because of the coding.

Any comments on how this compares with the free Sophos software? The Sophos offering has been around for a while and was recently updated.

I've used Sophos since it was made available for OSX and really like it. At present, it remains my malware protection and will until I see a reason to change.

I've been using Intego VirusBarrier X6 for a few months... it's way more than an antivirus; it seems more complete than what's out there. It updates almost daily. It's about $30, cheaper with a coupon.

Other safety measures would be the tons of security addons for Firefox.
