Need Advice On Some Video Problems

For some reason when I try to watch something on Youtube the video (and audio) will work for about 1 second, pause for a long time, then start run for a very short time, then pause again. It is so bad that I usually don't even attempt to watch anything anymore. Is this a problem with the computer, ISP feed, or what?
my computer 4GB RAM, Windows XP, DSL router at 768KB.

I agree. Try switching it to 320p, or as a last resort even 240p.

Sorry about the misinformation. I just tested my speed and the results were 1.3 Mbps download and .79Mbps on the upload. Does this change the advice?

What you are describing is buffering. It could be the Internet speed, a memory issue, or feed. I have run into it on some channels and I can tell you it isn't on this end and I have 25.5 mbps down speed.

Yes it does. That should be fine for 480p video. Make sure adobe flash is updated, try clearing your cookies and cache, and try a different browser. You may also want to try updating your graphics driver.

That only changes things if you can prove that your stream is able to maintain it. Right click on a youtube video and select 'take speed test'.
Generally though, I would suggest more than 3Mb/s for streaming video content.

Fyi, I had a 1.5mbps down 384kbps up DSL connection before, realistically 1.25mbps down, and could stream 360p video well, and 480p worked ok too (it used most of the connection though).

Thanks for the advice. Now another question: my machine has 1GB of RAM, the mobo is an Intel D845BG and can take
a max of 2GB of DDR2 RAM, the graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce2 MX/MX 400, would it help to upgrade the system RAM of 2GB or the Graphics card? Or both?

As I said before, try this: Make sure adobe flash is updated, try clearing your cookies and cache, and try a different browser. You may also want to try updating your graphics driver.

The thing is, with such an old system, I'm not sure if it's worth investing more money into it. (By the way, I just checked and that board supports DDR, up to 266MHz, NOT DDR2.) For 480p video or less, I doubt your system specs are the issue.
