University friends are never short of computer problems. My friend gave me an Acer Aspire 5741 to figure out whats wrong. The glaring thing is the battery doesn't seem to charge past 23% in Windows 7. I've already updated the bios and no change, for now, i am doing a calibration run and the battery is taking forever to die! It's been about 2 hours so far, and I am still researching forums for solid tips on what to do.
Also, I'm having trouble taking it apart so I can clean the fan. Got any teardown guides?

Yep, the battery definitely sounds uncalibrated. If you want to speed up the discharging, run prime95 on it or play a game or something.I've read that there are screws under the keyboard for that model that you need to remove. Seen this? http://www.fatwallet...-deals/1028202/
(on a side note, Win8 is being a PITA here, I'm using it to post this but ended up researching stuff using chrome on the host computer... plus, I went into the desktop UI, IE was restarted, and it lost my open tabs and post info. Grrr... win8 is running under vmware, fullscreened)

If the battery meter is just wrong - don't mess with it too much. People will say that it is best to recalibrate Windows by charging to full charge, and draining the battery completely. Don't. You do nothing but shorten the lifespan.

Discharge the battery completely and after that remove it from laptop and keep away for 2-3 hours. Also I would like to know how old this battery is? If it is more than 2 years old its better to replace.
